I recently had the chance to visit an exhibition of architects’ studies of space: Architects Build Small Spaces, at the Victoria and Albert museum. Terunobu Fujimori, Tokyo, Japan – Beetle’s House from Victoria and Albert Museum on Vimeo.
So the XBox Kinect has been released, and people are having lots of fun with it already! First off, a fantastic video by Oliver Kreylos showing the output that can grabbed from the Kinect, viewed in realtime:
Nate Lawrence has point out Greg Downing’s code for pulling out camera positions from PhotoSynth, posted on PGrammetry.com. xRez has an example of using it to create a gigapixel object texture. PGrammetry.com itself is a very helpful discussion board for “Everything related to photogrammetry” –…
A friend pointed me to this excellent architecture/collaborative/open-sharing project by Aram Bartholl: “Dead Drops”. ‘Dead Drops’ is an anonymous, offline, peer to peer file-sharing network in public space. I am ‘injecting’ USB flash drives into walls, buildings and curbs accessable to anybody in public space.
The developers of the Layar Augmented Reality browser have just released a video showing early development of marker integration. This would bring in marker positioning for indoor use. This is great news, but unfortunately there is currently no known timeline for release of these features….
I’ve made a video showing the results of dense point-cloud reconstruction with various settings on the sample ET imageset for Bundler. This should give a quick visual reference of what to expect with different settings.
As a continuation of the training material I authored for the Photogrammetry and Augmented Reality Workshop, here is a guide to using the PhotoSynth Toolkit for reconstructing 3D models from images or video. It’s much more straightforward than the Bundler method, but less powerful….
This package is now very old. (things have moved really fast!) I recommend using Changchang Wu’s VisualSFM, which works splendidly and continues to incorporate new research. Last week I held a workshop on Photogrammetry and Augmented Reality. As preparation for the workshop, I took…
This is the most recent outcome of my PhD research: a Layar layer that allows you to visualise dynamic geoRSS feeds with no effort or set-up at all. Just provide the geoRSS feed URL. Here’s an overview: The geoRSS Layar Gateway – An overview from…
