Recently, I’ve been wasting a lot of time playing Far Cry 2. As part of the game dynamics, occasionally you are required to fix damaged vehicles in order to get them going again. This is simply represented by the game character ratcheting at an innocuous looking bolt on the radiator. I can’t help feeling that if the vehicle repair scenario included basic mechanical troubleshooting, then I’d be learning something and gaining a bit more satisfaction for the job done.
In that vein, I have been thinking about mobile games that are fun, but can also teach varying gradients of medical, mechanical, and electronic knowledge and skills. A search dug up a likely candidate by a Spanish company, that teaches First Aid: Emergency911.
Unfortunately it has been mysteriously removed from availability.

You’re right – I’ve learned a great deal recently about specific guns, and what the correct procedure is to unjam them.
America’s Army also, is actually doubling as an warfare training simulator, so they’ve got vested interests in being accurate. Unfortunately I was just a teensiest bit offended that no matter what side you play on-line, the opponents team all wear turbans.
