Managed 30.8km last night – somewhat accidentally. Decided to cycle from Newtown to Bear Island, La Perouse (where a bit of Mission Impossible 2 was filmed), and only realized how far it was half way.
La Perouse is a nice lookout into Botany Bay, next to a national park or some such, and is very pleasant. During the day you can buy fish ‘n’ chips from a handy restaurant. The route leading up to it though is pretty horrible; even at 4am, massive trucks stream by, and factories belch out some foul smells. This was balanced out by Mascot being a friendly, shop-lined section of Botany Rd.
Happily, I was warmed up enough after getting there to average 23km/h on the way back.
